To travel to the Eastern Republic of Uruguay the means of transport most used is the ferry. The companies Ferrylineas and Buquebus cross the Río de la Plata towards the ports of Colonia and Montevideo and, by means of connecting buses, they reach the cities of Piriápolis and Punta del Este. Also, from the fluvial port of Tigre (Province of Buenos Aires) it is possible to arrive in the town of Carmelo and the numerous isles that comprise the delta of the Paraná river on boats that provides a service comparable to buses, for which they are called "bus boats" (
lanchas colectivas).
