Requirements to settle in the country
In order to settle in the Argentine Republic it is necessary to submit personal documents and any other documents required according to the purpose (familiar, work, refugee, academic, etc.) and category of settlement (permanent or temporary) applied for, before the National Immigrations Office.

As per ruled in current legislation, the procedures and requirements to apply for settlement – either temporary or permanent – are different according to the applicant’s nationality, i.e., if the applicant is from a MERCOSUR Member Country/Associated Country or not.

This and any other information referred to settlement criteria and required documents can be requested at the National Immigrations Office of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Though foreign residents cannot vote in national elections (president and vice–president and national legislators), they can cast their votes in those provinces which legislation allows foreigners to vote in provincial/municipal elections. To exercise this right it is a preliminary requirement to know the corresponding provincial legislation. Nevertheless, in all cases it is mandatory to have the National Identity Card (D.N.I) and to be enrolled in a special register set up for that purpose. To get more information and know the current legislation in those provinces, contact the Ministry of Domestic Affairs.
